Mumbai To Host 'Olympicveer Khashaba Jadhav Paramparik Krida Mahakumbh' From August 13
The ground of Jam Saheb Mukadam Government Industrial Training Institute in Kurla has been designated exclusively for indigenous and traditional sports and will be inaugurated as the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Indigenous Sports Ground during the opening ceremony.

Under the initiative of Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha and the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Olympicveer Khashaba Jadhav Paramparik Krida Mahakumbh will kick off with great enthusiasm on Wednesday in Kurla, Mumbai.
Organised in memory of Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar, the event aims to preserve Maharashtra’s rich cultural and sporting traditions. The ground of Jam Saheb Mukadam Government Industrial Training Institute in Kurla has been designated exclusively for indigenous and traditional sports and will be inaugurated as the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Indigenous Sports Ground during the opening ceremony.
Grand Inauguration
The Mahakumbh will be inaugurated under the chairmanship of State Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Manikrao Kokate, with Chief Minister Fadnavis delivering a special video message to inspire participants. Adding historical significance to the event, Ranjit Jadhav, son of legendary Olympian Khashaba Jadhav, will also be present. From August 13 to August 22, Mumbaikars will witness a grand showcase of traditional sports.
Preserving Cultural Heritage
Minister Lodha emphasised that Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar’s role in preserving culture is unforgettable and that it is the responsibility of the present generation to protect this heritage.
“Our traditional games are more than entertainment – they are a part of our cultural legacy. Through this Mahakumbh, we will revive games such as Lezim, Fugdi, Lagori, Viti Dandu, Pawankhind Race, arm wrestling, tug-of-war, wrestling, and Mallakhamb,” Lodha said.
Overwhelming Participation
The event has received an overwhelming response, with over 15,000 participants already registered from across the Mumbai region through the organisation Kreeda Bharati. Schools, ITIs, and colleges have also joined in large numbers.
