Mumbai: A coach of an empty local train derailed at Mumbai Central station on Wednesday, disrupting the suburban train operations. Fortunately no one injured. As a result of this incident, Western Railways local commuters faced inconvenience. Several local train services were running up to 20 minutes behind schedule in the afternoon.
"A wheel of the local train derailed at a crossing point while train was entering Mumbai Central car shed at around 11.30 am on Tuesday," said an official of WR adding that due to this problem few local train services were got detected up to 20 minutes but no any train cancelled on this account.
Passengers face inconvenience
However, passengers experienced significant inconvenience at several stations, including Charni Road, Grant Road, Mahalaxmi, Lower Parel, and Prabhadevi, where overcrowding was a major issue. Furthermore, some trains were diverted to fast tracks, leading to congestion even on fast track tracks too."I had to wait for over 20 minutes for a train on Wednesday at Prabhadevi," said Gajendra Shah, a 43-year-old resident of Santacruz, expressing the frustrations of many commuters during that period.Another passenger claimed that she forced to wait for a train at Grant Road station for more than 15 minutes .
Another Incident Reported Earlier
This is the second incident of derailment of a train in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region in less than a week. On Saturday afternoon, a goods train derailed in Raigad district adjoining Mumbai, disrupting operations on the Panvel-Vasai route. No one was injured in the incident, officials earlier said.
