Mumbai: History-sheeter nabbed red-handed by WR RPF at Andheri

Western Railway's Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel are always at the forefront to protect and secure the lives of passengers. RPF WR Mumbai Division has launched 'Operation Yatri Suraksha' under which personnel catch criminals involved in passenger-related crimes such as theft and robbery, and later hand them over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal action.
According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the RPF has formed special Crime Prevention and Detection Squads (CPDS) at all major stations in the Mumbai Division of WR that works intelligently by gathering source information to catch the criminals.
Notably, on 4 July 2022, the CPDS staff of the Andheri team comprising of Head Constable Naveen, constables Ankit, Deepak, and Anuj observed one suspected person roaming at Andheri PF No. 6.
The CPDS members observed the activity on CCTV and suspected that the person was pick-pocketing a commuter while climbing the stairs at middle FOB at PF No. 06 of Andheri.
The accused tried to run away from the spot, however, the CPDS team acted immediately and caught the accused, who was then brought to RPF Post Andheri along with stolen property.
Upon interrogation, the culprit disclosed his name as Sunil, a resident of Naigaon (East) Mumbai and admitted to the theft. The culprit was taken to the GRP office where a case was registered by GRP under section 379 IPC. Upon interrogation, it was also found that the accused was a history-sheeter and several criminal cases have been registered against him.
With a focused approach under operation Yatri Suraksha, Western Railway’s RPF is producing excellent results and the RPF is motivated to intensify the drive under Operative Yatri Suraksha in near future.
