Mumbai: Blaze Erupts At Bandra’s Fortune Enclave, MFB To Serve Notice For Defunct Fire Safety System
An apartment in a residential high-rise, 418, Fortune Enclave in Bandra West caught fire in the wee hours of Tuesday. Although the blaze was not major, the smog engulfed the entire building, creating panic among residents. Several residents ran out of the building on time, while the firefighters rescued at least nine residents stranded on the 15th floor of the building.

Mumbai: An apartment in a residential high-rise, 418, Fortune Enclave in Bandra West caught fire in the wee hours of Tuesday. Although the blaze was not major, the smog engulfed the entire building, creating panic among residents.
Several residents ran out of the building on time, while the firefighters rescued at least nine residents stranded on the 15th floor of the building. An 80-year-old female was found unconscious during the evacuation and was immediately taken to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra. The injured is in stable condition, the statement released by the BMC said.
“The fire erupted in a bedroom of an apartment on the sixth floor. As per the primary investigation, the fire was caused due to faulty electrical system. Several residents were evacuated by the staircase. The inbuilt firefighting system of the building was not working,” the officer from the Mumbai Fire Brigade said.
The incident took place in the 15-storeyed, 418 Fortune Enclave located on 14th Road, Bandra West. The fire erupted around 1 am on Tuesday and four fire engines, four jumbo water tankers, an ambulance along with police and local civic ward staff were rushed to the spot.
“The firefighters rescued a male person and eight females from the 15th floor to the ground through the staircase. A female from the 2nd floor and two females and a male were rescued from the 8th floor to the ground through the staircase,” the statement released by the BMC said.
As the firefighting system of the building was found to be non-functioning, the MFB will serve a notice to the building under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Safety Measures Act for not complying with the fire safety norms.
