MMRDA Clears ₹12,000 Crore Metro And Infrastructure Contracts To Boost Mumbai Urban Mobility

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), in its recent Executive Committee meeting, approved infrastructure contracts worth over ₹12,000 crore. The meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik and attended by Additional Chief Secretary Aseem Kumar Gupta, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, and MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS), focused on critical works across metro corridors and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL).

The approved contracts encompass a wide range of infrastructure components including systems integration, rolling stock, civil works, traction power, automatic fare collection (AFC) systems, depot infrastructure, and multi-modal integration (MMI).

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, stated, “Each project approved today has been meticulously evaluated to ensure it contributes meaningfully to the integrated growth of Mumbai’s transport infrastructure. From systems integration and rolling stock to traction power, AFC, and MMI works, these contracts are aligned with our goal of achieving operational readiness across key corridors. The focus remains on enhancing last-mile connectivity, accelerating commissioning timelines, and delivering commuter-centric infrastructure that supports seamless, multimodal movement across the MMR.”

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emphasised the long-term impact of the projects, stating, “The Government of Maharashtra is committed to delivering infrastructure that not only meets today’s demands but anticipates future needs. The approval of projects worth over ₹12,000 crore by MMRDA is a significant step toward realizing Mumbai’s vision of a world-class, integrated, and inclusive transport network.”

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also chairs MMRDA, added, “These landmark approvals underscore the state’s unwavering commitment to building globally benchmarked transport infrastructure. With over ₹12,000 crore in strategic investments, we are advancing toward a seamless, sustainable, and inclusive metro network that will define the next era of urban mobility for Maharashtra.”

Major Contracts Approved:

• ₹4,788 crore – Metro Lines 4 & 4A:
  Larsen & Toubro Ltd. awarded contract for integrated systems including rolling stock, CBTC signaling, telecom, PSDs, and depot equipment with five years of comprehensive maintenance.

• ₹557.55 crore (Revised) – Metro Line 4A:
  Revised value for civil works at Gownipada and Gaimukh stations, accounting for site-specific adjustments.

• ₹188.59 crore – Metro Line 4:
  L&T to undertake ballastless trackwork from Bhakti Park to Mulund Fire Station. Cost approved is 15.72% below estimates.

• ₹668.15 crore – Metro Line 6:
  IRCON International Ltd. to design and install traction, E&M systems, power supply, lifts, and escalators with five-year maintenance.

• ₹551.41 crore (Revised) – MTHL Package-4:
  Revised contract includes ITS, toll management, ATMS, street lighting, and administrative infrastructure.

• ₹2,269.66 crore – Metro Line 6:
  NCC Ltd. to provide rolling stock, signaling, telecom, PSDs, and depot machinery with five-year maintenance.

• ₹104.66 crore (Revised) – Metro Line 6:
  Extension of 680 days and 39.61% fee variation for General Consultant (CA-86).

• ₹535.08 crore – Metro Lines 4 & 4A (MMI):
  Multi-modal integration at 32 stations awarded in four packages.

• ₹432.63 crore (Revised) – Metro Line 2A:
  Additional fees for DMRC under deposit work terms for extended project implementation.

• ₹118.28 crore – Metro Lines 9 & 7A:
  Leena Powertech–Umesh Brothers Consortium to deliver OHE, power distribution, and SCADA systems.

• ₹249.97 crore – Metro Lines 4 & 4A:
  Aurionpro Solutions Ltd. awarded AFC system contract from Wadala to Gaimukh.

• USD 7.59 million + ₹14.29 crore – Rail Procurement:
  Mitsui & Co., Nippon Steel, and Mitsui India to supply 6,900 MT of head-hardened rails.

• ₹99.99 crore – Metro Line 2B:
  Paras Railtech Pvt. Ltd. to undertake ballastless trackwork from Andheri West to ITO Station.

• ₹114.98 crore – Infrastructure Monitoring:
  Censys Technologies Pvt. Ltd. selected to implement real-time digital infrastructure monitoring system.

• ₹497.46 crore – Metro Line 5 (Including Kasheli Depot):
  IRCON International Ltd. to deliver RSS, OHE, SCADA, and E&M systems with depot works.

• ₹79.37 crore – Metro Lines 2B & 7:
  Extension for DMRC’s oversight on rolling stock and signaling till August 2026.

• ₹70 crore – Metro Lines 9 & 7A:
  AFC system contract awarded to L&T Technology Services–Amnex JV.

• ₹77.38 crore – Metro Lines 4 & 4A (Package 1):
  KBA Infrastructure–Shree Manglam Buildcon JV to construct foot overbridges at Cadbury and Majiwada stations.

• ₹129.04 crore – Metro Lines 4 & 4A (Package 2):
  J Kumar–PRS JV to build foot overbridges at Pant Nagar, Vikhroli, Bhandup, and Vijay Garden stations.
