Maharashtra FDA Suspends Bombay Presidency Radio Club's Food Licence After Dead Cockroach, Fly Infestation Found In Kitchen | Bombay Presidency Radio Club

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food business licence of The Bombay Presidency Radio Club Limited following an inspection that uncovered serious food safety and hygiene violations, including a dead cockroach and a fly infestation in the kitchen.

According to an NDTV report, the inspection was conducted on August 19, 2026, under the direction of Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who is overseeing the state’s ongoing food safety drive.

Food safety violations found

The inspection reportedly found that the establishment had violated provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, along with hygiene requirements prescribed under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Rules and Regulations, 2011.

During the inspection, officials reportedly found flies across various areas of the kitchen, a dead cockroach and exposed cockroach traps near the utensil-washing section. The FDA also flagged flaking ceiling plaster above food preparation areas, raising concerns over possible physical contamination.

Officials further found washing powder and other chemicals stored alongside food items. Utensils and food were reportedly kept directly on the floor, while refrigerators used to store non-vegetarian food were found to be in an unhygienic condition.

Improper food handling flagged

Following the inspection and the reported food safety lapses, the club has been directed to stop all food purchase, sale and distribution activities. Any violation of the order could invite stringent legal action under food safety laws.

FDA to focus on edible oil

Meanwhile, as part of the statewide ‘Safe Food, Safe Maharashtra’ campaign, FDA Commissioner Mundhe said on Thursday that the department’s next focus would be edible oil.

Mundhe said the FDA would take action against violations at every stage of the edible oil supply chain, including production, packaging, distribution and use. Manufacturers, distributors, retailers and establishments that repeatedly reuse cooking oil could face stringent legal action, including imprisonment and fines of up to Rs 10 lakh.
