Thane: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Sunday that efforts are being made to carry out the trial run of the long-anticipated Metro service in Thane next month, with full operations expected to commence by December this year.
After the project's completion, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) will experience uninterrupted Metro connectivity, providing last-mile and complete commute solutions, Shinde informed reporters following the inauguration of the Thane Varsha Marathon.
Initiatives are in progress to carry out a trial operation of the Metro in Thane this September, with intentions to start official services by December. The project is advancing swiftly, and initial work on Thane's internal Metro network has begun, aiming to connect it with major Metro lines for seamless transit.
Simultaneously, the expansion of the freeway from Mumbai to Thane seeks to reduce traffic jams and redirect services away from the city towards Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT).

The deputy CM has instructed local authorities to eradicate traffic congestion in Thane. Shinde also revealed the successful restoration of Jogila Lake, which had been encroached upon by roughly 250 huts; this initiative represents an important achievement in rehabilitating natural resources.
In community involvement, the Thane Varsha Marathon attracted more than 25,000 participants following a long break, showcasing the city’s passion for these activities. Shinde praised the patriotic spirit of wrestler-turned-politician Chandrahar Patil and his team for their blood donation initiative for soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir, demonstrating their dedication to the country.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis affirmed the government's dedication to women's empowerment during a Raksha Bandhan event in Mulund. He promised the continuation of the beloved sisters scheme with a future increase in honorarium. Despite temporary funding halts, he assured resumption for qualifying women in the re-examination. Fadnavis dismissed corruption allegations as politically motivated and emphasized direct fund transfer from the government treasury to women.
