Good News, Thanekars! From Pod Taxi To Eiffel Like 'Twin Tower': Eknath Shinde Plans Major Infra Update For Lake City

Thane: In a major announcement, the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has planned a major infrastructure update for the people of Thane City. In an event on April 1, the Dy CM said that an ambitious pod taxi project has been planned, which will provide last-mile connectivity. In addition to this, 'Twin Tower', similar to the Eiffel Tower, is also being planned.

While addressing the event, Shinde said that on the lines of the Metro, Coastal Road and the Thane-Borivali twin-tunnel projects, the pod taxi service will come near the Ghodbunder area, where the traffic has been at its peak. The pod taxi is set to offer fast and modern transport to the residents of the city.

What is a Pod Taxi?

A pod taxi is part of the Personal Rapid Transit mechanism in which fully automated, driverless, electric vehicles run on elevated tracks to transport a small number of persons.

Foundation Stone For Pod Taxi Soon

For the Pod Taxi, the foundation stone for the ambitious pod taxi project in Thane's Ghodbunder area will be laid soon, adding that, "we are also planning a ‘Twin Tower’ in the city similar to the Eiffel Tower,” he said as quoted by PTI.

Meanwhile, the Thane Borivali Tunnel work will begin on April 3. The commencement of tunnel boring work for the Thane Borivali tunnel marks another critical step in improving cross-city connectivity. The tunnel is expected to significantly cut travel time between Thane and Borivali, which currently involves long and congested road routes.
