Eight Street Vendor Representatives Elected Unopposed To BNCMC Committee In Bhiwandi |

Bhiwandi: Eight representatives of street vendors have been elected unopposed to the Street Vendors Committee of the Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC), with six additional members set to be nominated by the civic administration.

20-Member Committee To Be Headed By Municipal Commissioner

The 20-member committee will be headed by the Municipal Commissioner as its chairperson. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Police from the Traffic Department, Assistant Director of the Town Planning Department, Medical Health Officer and a representative of the lead bank will serve as ex-officio members.

As many as 21,135 street vendors are registered within the municipal limits. The election process was conducted under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Anmol Sagar, with Shivraj Gaikwad, Chief Officer of Shahapur Nagar Panchayat, serving as the Election Decision Officer.

Eight Candidates Declared Winners After Receiving Single Nominations

The eight seats reserved for representatives from different categories witnessed no contest, as only one nomination was received for each of the respective seats. Following scrutiny of the nominations, Election Decision Officer Shivraj Gaikwad formally declared all eight candidates elected unopposed.

The elected representatives are Karan Ghodke and Santoshkumar Gupta from the general category; Shakira Shaikh from the women’s reserved category; Asha Mane from the Scheduled Caste women’s category; Gunja Waghe from the Scheduled Tribe category; Adnan Momin from the Other Backward Class (OBC) category; Hamid Shaikh from the minority category; and Ramzan Ansari from the category reserved for persons with disabilities.

Six Members to Be Nominated

The Street Vendors Committee will have six additional nominated members. The municipal administration has received 10 applications for these positions, said Milind Palsule, Head of the Social Welfare Department.

The nomination process for these six seats will determine the remaining representation on the 20-member committee.

Following the announcement of the eight unopposed results, the newly elected representatives and their supporters celebrated the outcome. The unopposed election has been viewed as an important development for the city's street vendors, as the elected representatives will provide a formal platform for vendors to raise issues concerning their livelihoods and interests before the civic administration.

With more than 21,000 registered street vendors in the municipal area, the committee is expected to play a significant role in addressing issues related to street vending and coordination between vendors and the municipal authorities.

The civic administration is now expected to proceed with the nomination of the remaining six members from among the 10 applications received, following which the Street Vendors Committee will attain its full 20-member strength.
