‘Drug Addiction Is Not Just A Social Battle’: CM Devendra Fadnavis At ‘Campus Connect’ Campaign In Navi Mumbai

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday launched the ‘Campus Connect’ campaign under the Drug-Free Navi Mumbai Campaign, aimed at raising awareness among young people about the dangers of drug abuse.

Speaking at the event, Fadnavis said, “The Drug-Free Navi Mumbai Campaign is a step towards our battle against drug addiction in the region.” He emphasised that the fight against drug addiction is particularly important for the youth, who form a significant part of India’s population.

Fadnavis highlighted various initiatives launched since 2014 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to encourage youth participation in the country’s growth, including Startup India, Skill India and Khelo India.

Fadnavis highlights youth potential

Highlighting the importance of India’s young population to the economy, Fadnavis said, “Our demography is supporting us, and if we transform this demography into a demographic dividend, if we transform this human population into human resource, nobody can stop us.”

Speaking about India’s economic growth, Fadnavis claimed that the country’s position in terms of economic growth had improved from 11th in 2014 to fourth in 2025, adding that India would soon move to third place.

Drug addiction threatens youth potential

However, Fadnavis warned that drug addiction could prevent young people from contributing to the country’s growth. He said that if the youth become addicted to drugs, narcotics and other substances, they would be unable to realise their potential and contribute to the country’s progress over the next four to five years.

He further stressed that the fight against drug addiction is not merely a social responsibility but a battle that involves the state and the nation, urging everyone to work together to combat the menace.

Campaign targets young people

Meanwhile, the Campus Connect campaign is an awareness initiative targeting young people. Launched in collaboration with the Maharashtra government, the campaign aims to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse and encourage them to become ambassadors for a drug-free society through creative expression.

Moreover, Fadnavis also inaugurated the Integrated CCTV Command Centre (ICCC) at the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate office.

Several dignitaries, including ministers Ganesh Naik and Bharat Gogawale, MLCs Vikrant Patil and Ravindra Phatak, and MLAs Manda Mhatre and Mahesh Baldi, were present at the inauguration ceremony.
