The Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) has initiated an upgrade at the 220/22 kV Anandnagar substation, increasing the capacity of one of its 50 MVA transformers to 100 MVA. The project, which began on Tuesday morning, is expected to be completed by midnight on March 20.
This upgrade was unanimously approved during a joint meeting between industrial associations, MSETCL, and the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). To manage power distribution effectively during this period, the remaining two 50 MVA transformers at the Anandnagar substation will supply electricity to industrial consumers through a rotational system. Other consumers in the region will continue to receive power with minimal disruptions.
“Residents and businesses in Ulhasnagar Subdivisions 4 & 5, Ambernath (East & West), and Badlapur (East & West) are requested to use electricity cautiously during the upgrade period,” an MSEDCL official said.
The Anandnagar substation is a key power supplier for MSEDCL consumers in Anandnagar Industrial Estate, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur. To manage the load efficiently, the entire power demand from MSEDCL’s Kharwai and Poddar substations has been temporarily shifted to the 100/22 kV Morivali substation. Kharwai and Poddar substations primarily supply Badlapur East, while Badlapur West is powered through MSEDCL’s Sonivali substation. Additionally, some power load from Badlapur West has been transferred to MSETCL’s 220/22 kV Jambhul substation.
Despite these measures, occasional power fluctuations or temporary outages may occur due to increased demand or technical constraints. “Consumers are urged to minimize their electricity usage and cooperate to ensure a smooth transition during the upgrade. Once completed, the enhanced 100 MVA capacity at the Anandnagar substation will improve power supply reliability and service efficiency for residents and industries in the region,” the official added.
