Ujjain: Chess Olympiad torch to arrive in city today

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The Chess Olympiad torch, which was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and started its journey on June 19, will arrive in Madhya Pradesh through Ujjain on July 3. It is led by chess grandmaster Anurag Mahamal.

Grandmaster Anurag Mahamal and international master M Akshat Khampariya will play a game of chess with 50 players simultaneously at Vikram Kirti Mandir at 6 pm. Mahama will hand over the torch to the chief guest of the programme, higher education minister Mohan Yadav who will in turn hand the torch to chess players.

The organising committee for the chess Olympiad, players and invited people will go to Mahakaleshwar temple in the form of rally that will pass through the main roads of the city. At the temple, the participants of the rally will take blessings from Baba Mahakal. On the occasion of 75 years of independence, this entire event is being organised in the country under the leadership of the Sports Ministry, Government of India and Chess Federation India.

District sports and youth welfare officer OP Harod and District Chess Association president Sandeep Kulshrestha told that the event for the Olympiad will be organised on Sunday at 6 pm in the auditorium of the local Vikram Kirti Mandir. Representatives of Chess Federation and Madhya Pradesh Chess Ad-hoc Committee and players will attend the event.

The Chess Olympiad (44th) is being held for the first time in India. The torch will be brought to the event by the grand master and will be handed over to the minister of higher education who in turn will hand over this torch to the chess players. The torch rally will start from Vikram Kirti Mandir and will reach Mahakal Mandir via Teen Batti Chauraha, Ghanta Ghar, Chamunda Mata Square, Dewas Gate and Indoregate. The torch will leave for Indore from Mahakal temple.
