Khachrod (Madhya Pradesh): Encroachments by shopkeepers along the Khachrod-Barnagar Road have significantly narrowed one of the town's busiest routes, causing traffic congestion and raising concerns over road safety.
The affected stretch extends from Ujjain Gate to the Barnagar Bypass Square, where commercial establishments on both sides have allegedly occupied large portions of the road by displaying goods, placing furniture, and extending business activities beyond their premises. As a result, the carriageway has been reduced to nearly half its original width, making it difficult for heavy vehicles to pass.
The road witnesses heavy traffic throughout the day, including large commercial vehicles. Residents said the encroachments have increased the risk of accidents, especially after a recent incident in which a private bus reportedly suffered brake failure on the same route, narrowly avoiding a major mishap.

Responding to the issue, Khachrod Municipal Council Chief Municipal Officer Ravi Gupta said that if shopkeepers are found keeping goods on the road, the material will be seized and punitive action will be taken.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Neha Sahu said instructions have been issued to the Municipal Council to take action against encroachers and assured that a drive to remove illegal encroachments would be carried out soon.
