Badnawar (Madhya Pradesh): A man was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for rape by additional sessions Judge GC Mishra in Badnawar.
The accused, Shekhar Kumar alias Mahavir (24), from Vidhan Nagar, Jaipur, Rajasthan was found guilty of abducting a minor victim on July 29, 2023. He lured her from her home with intention of rape and kept her in a hut in Omkareshwar and Jaipur, where he repeatedly assaulted her without consent.
The victim's mother reported her daughter’s missing complaint when she did not return home, prompting a case to be filed against an unknown person at Badnawar police station. Following a thorough investigation, the police presented a charge sheet in court. The prosecution proved that the accused had raped the victim, who was under 16 years of age.

The judge sentenced Kumar to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1k under Section 366 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with 20 years under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
If he fails to pay the fine, he will face additional imprisonment. The accused was in judicial custody since August 7, 2023 and this period will be counted towards his sentence.
