Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The BJP workers, particularly the candidates of the party for assembly elections, got nervous on Tuesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme to kick-start electioneering in Madhya Pradesh from the Mahakal City on October 30 was cancelled at the last moment.
However, they heaved a sigh of relief in the evening after knowing that Home Minister Amit Shah is going to organise a roadshow in Ujjain on October 28. Voting for the assembly elections is going to be held in Madhya Pradesh on November 17.
Regarding this election, the PM was to hold an election meeting on October 30 at Kartik Mela premises or Nanakheda Stadium, preparations for which have started. This was to be the first election meeting of the PM after the enforcement of the model code of conduct in the state.
Preparations were being made keeping in mind that it should be held in a good and grand manner. Even the state BJP president Vishnudatt Sharma, who came to Ujjain on Monday night, told the BJP leaders that PM Modi will come directly to Ujjain in the afternoon after his visit to Mizoram on October 30 and his election rally has been organised here.
He had also directed the party leaders to start preparations for the PM’s programme. But on Tuesday afternoon, the party leadership communicated to the city BJP president Vivek Joshi that PM Modi’s programme in Ujjain on October 30 has been cancelled.
Joshi told Free Press that PM’s programme has been cancelled owing to some unavoidable reasons.
He, however, said that Home Minister Shah will hold a roadshow in Ujjain on October 28 though his detailed programme was not received till the filing of this report.
