Indore: OT Complex Launch At MYH Delayed, Toilet Renovation Begins To Fix Leakage Issue

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): To get the modular operation theatre (OT) at Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) started at the earliest, the agency executing the project has started toilet renovation work to resolve the long-standing leakage issue.

Despite being ready for the past eight months, the OT complex remains non-operational due to water leakage from the upper floor toilets. Built at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, the OT complex includes a 30-bed ICU.

According to the contractor, the leakage is from the old toilets on the upper floors which are now being renovated at a fast pace. During the OT complex’s construction, the hospital administration allocated Rs 35 lakh for renovating nearby toilets and the pantry.

However, as additional repairs became necessary, the budget fell short, leading to payment issues and delaying the renovation work. The hospital administration has said that the OT complex will not be made operational until the leakage issue is fully resolved. The contractor has also clarified that without fixing the upper-floor toilets, the leakage problem cannot be permanently solved.

According to sources, “Two operation theatres in the old OT complex have completely deteriorated, causing delays in surgeries. Additionally, both OTs in the burn unit remain unused, further complicating operations.” “We cannot start the OT complex with the issue of leakage. Renovation of the toilets is on and we believe that the problem would be solved at the earliest,” said Dr Ashok Yadav, superintendent, MY Hospital.
