Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Development Authority (IDA) is taking major steps to enhance the city's green cover by developing 141 gardens across its 10 Town Planning Schemes (TPS) and a 40-acre City Forest in Scheme No 97. These efforts align with the city’s commitment to sustainability, aiming to create a healthier environment for future generations.
According to IDA CEO RP Ahirwar, the authority ensures that all its development plans include dedicated green belts and large gardens. "We are working towards making Indore one of the greenest cities in the country. As part of this, 141 gardens are being developed within various TPS schemes, and a City Forest spanning 40 acres is in the works following a Supreme Court directive,” he said.

IDA has been actively involved in tree plantation drives and follows a structured approach to tree maintenance for three years post-plantation, ensuring high survival rates. This model was successfully demonstrated near Brilliant Convention Center, where trees planted during the Global Investors Summit and Pravasi Bharatiya Sammelan have now grown into a thriving green space. The largest number of gardens are being developed in TPS-9 (42 gardens), TPS-8 (35 gardens), and TPS-10 (24 gardens), while other schemes will feature at least six or more gardens each. Additionally, the 40-acre City Forest in Scheme No. 97 Part-4 will serve as a major ecological zone, significantly contributing to the city's air quality and biodiversity.
Beyond garden development, IDA is incorporating green corridors along major roads, including the Super Corridor, ensuring an interconnected network of green spaces throughout the city. The planning for the City Forest is in its final stages, with the vision of creating a dense, self-sustaining forest that will provide a natural retreat for residents and a boost to urban biodiversity. Through these initiatives, IDA is setting new benchmarks in sustainable urban planning, making Indore a model city for environmental conservation, said IDA CEO Ahirwar.
