UJJAIN (Madhya Pradesh): The City Congress on Friday evening staged a strong protest and organised a foot march against the rapidly rising inflation and unemployment. During the march, women Congress workers banged plates in their hands to express their anger against the policies of the BJP-led Union government.
Leading the foot march, City Congress Committee president Mukesh Bhati said that the BJP had brought a "tsunami of inflation" to the country, making life difficult for the common people.
He alleged that the government had first eliminated employment opportunities in the country and had now disrupted the lives of ordinary people through rampant inflation. He further alleged that the Modi government was only busy filling the pockets of its corporate friends.
Bhati warned that if the prices of essential daily-use items were not reduced at the earliest, the Congress party would launch an aggressive statewide agitation over the issue affecting the common people.
Ravi Rai, Ashok Sarawan, Ajit Singh, Vikram Singh Patel, Chandrabhan Singh Chandel, Chain Singh Chaudhary, Dheeraj Yadav and Rajesh Rana, among others, also addressed the protest.
During the foot march, Women's Congress workers Sapna Sankhla, Sonia Thakur, Neelam Vishwas and Saba Qureshi walked while banging plates.
Sit-in in support of RaGa
The City Congress staged a sit-in on Friday in support of Rahul Gandhi's protest over alleged police brutality against a student and the failure to register an FIR in the matter.
At the local Ganesh Chowk, Congress workers gathered in solidarity and expressed their anger against the Union government and the functioning of the police.
Addressing the sit-in, City Congress Committee president Mukesh Bhati said that there was now no democracy left in the country. He alleged that the police under the Modi government had brutally lathi-charged a promising student, fired tear-gas shells and used a pellet gun.
He said the student lost an eye and sustained serious injuries in the action. He described the failure of the police to even register an FIR lodged by the injured student as the most unfortunate aspect of the incident.
