Uttar Pradesh Power Employees Outraged Over UPPCL Chairman's ‘Jail’ Remark
According to the Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, the chairman told managing directors and senior officials that those employees who wish to go to jail should be allowed to submit their consent within two days, and assured they would be “respectfully sent to jail”.

Kanpur: Power employees across Uttar Pradesh have expressed outrage after UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) Chairman Dr. Ashish Goyal, during a recent video conference, reportedly instructed top officials to keep registers ready to record names of employees "willing to go to jail". The remark, viewed as a threat, has sparked intense backlash.
According to the Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti, the chairman told managing directors and senior officials that those employees who wish to go to jail should be allowed to submit their consent within two days, and assured they would be “respectfully sent to jail”.
The committee compared the tone and authoritarianism of the chairman’s remarks to the Emergency era, calling it a stark reminder of a dark chapter in Indian democracy.
