Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to roll out UPSWAN 3.0, an upgraded version of its State Wide Area Network, aimed at strengthening e-governance infrastructure across departments. The project is being spearheaded by the Department of IT and Electronics, with UPDESCO appointed as the nodal agency for implementation across the state.
UPSWAN (Uttar Pradesh State Wide Area Network) was originally launched under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). The new version, UPSWAN 3.0, will offer enhanced security features, increased real-time monitoring capabilities, and broader network coverage.
While the State Headquarters, Commissionerate Offices, and District Headquarters are already connected, UPSWAN 3.0 will now extend connectivity to remaining 116 tehsil headquarters, 254 block offices, and 75 vikas bhawans. Currently, 235 out of 351 tehsils and 574 out of 828 blocks are already on the network.
The infrastructure upgrade will include advanced systems such as Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), and Internet Leased Lines (ILL). It will also feature next-generation firewalls (NGFW), intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS), and advanced persistent threat (APT) protection to strengthen cybersecurity.
Centralized monitoring, hybrid connectivity options, and scalable configurations will be core to the new framework. The upgraded network will ensure uninterrupted support for e-governance applications hosted at the Uttar Pradesh State Data Center, including e-office and other mission-critical services.
UPSWAN 3.0 is designed to bridge the digital divide across government offices by integrating standardized protocols and automating operations to improve transparency and administrative efficiency statewide.
