Rajasthan: Communal Tension Erupts In Udaipur After Vegetable Vendor Assault Over Lemon Price; Six Detained (Video)

Physical assault on a vegetable vendor following a heated argument triggered communal tension late Thursday night in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Stalls were vandalized after the incident, and markets remained closed in the city on Friday. The police have detained six persons, and additional forces have been deployed in the area.

The incident occurred in the Dhanmandi area of Udaipur. According to police, the vegetable vendor, a resident of Surajpole, was operating near Maheshwari Dharamshala in Teej Ka Chowk. Around 10 PM on Thursday, two youths from a minority community came to his stall and got into a heated argument over the price of lemons. Although bystanders initially intervened and settled the matter, the youths reportedly returned later with more accomplices and attacked the vendor and his father, Satveer (50), with swords and other weapons. Satveer was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital.

The incident sparked unrest in the area, with a mob gathering and vandalizing several stalls.

In protest, vegetable traders shut down major markets including Dhan Mandi, Nehru Bazaar, Nada Khada, Delhi Gate Crossing, and Bapu Bazaar, demanding the arrest of the attackers. Police later convinced them to reopen the markets in the afternoon.

Udaipur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal stated that the situation is under control. Six persons have been detained so far, and further investigation is underway. Extra police forces have been deployed to maintain law and order. Teams have been formed to trace the remaining culprits, with intensified patrolling and raids being conducted across the city.
