Astro Labs Ignite Scientific Curiosity In Rural Schools Across UP Under PPP Model
These labs enable students to explore space not only through textbooks but also through hands-on experience with telescopes, VR headsets, and microscopes.

Astro labs are being established in government schools at the block level across the state. Developed on a public private partnership (PPP) model, several of these labs are now operational in various districts. These labs enable students to explore space not only through textbooks but also through hands-on experience with telescopes, VR headsets, and microscopes. This initiative aims to build a strong foundation for future scientists and innovators across the state.
These astro labs, named Amrit Kaal Learning Centres, are designed to provide students with quality, technology driven education. They offer rural students the opportunity to understand complex concepts such as space, light, and gravity through real-time experimentation.
Developed under the PPP model, the labs are equipped with state-of-the-art tools including Dobsonian telescopes, VR headsets, light experiment kits, anatomical models, and microscopes. To support effective teaching, the program also includes orientation sessions, video guides, and mentorship initiatives for teachers. Mangala Prasad, Ballia District Magistrate, shared that science and astronomy labs have been set up in all 17 blocks of the district to promote scientific thinking. These labs are designed to foster experiential and inquiry-based learning.
CDO Ojaswi Raj explained that the cost of setting up each astro lab ranges from Rs 2.5 to Rs 3 lakh, covering both equipment and teacher training. These labs have significantly increased students’ curiosity and conceptual clarity. Children are now asking questions, gazing at the sky with wonder, and aspiring to explore the secrets of the universe. With access to such resources, children in the state’s villages are now dreaming of careers at national and international space agencies and beginning to believe those dreams can come true.
