Goa: Drugs worth Rs 2.5 crore seized during last 5 months

A total of 50 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act during this period of five months with the arrest of 59 persons.

In the last five months from January 1 to May 31, this year, the Goa police have seized narcotic drugs worth Rs 2.5 crores.

A total of 50 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act during this period of five months with the arrest of 59 persons.

Around 108.15 kg of narcotic drugs have been seized during this period.

Various police stations of Goa Police, Crime Branch and Konkan Railway Police Narcotic cell and Anti Narcotics cell have executed these seizures. The Central Bureau of Narcotics control Goa cell has also conducted a bunch of seizures.

During the five months, Goa Police, Crime Branch, and Konkan Railway Police Narcotics cell have registered 44 cases and arrested 46 persons.

Out of the 46 persons that have been arrested, 27 accused are from other states and nine are foreign nationals. Ten accused are Goan natives.

Among the foreign nationals that have been arrested, five persons are from Nigeria, two are Russian nationals and one each from Uganda and Japan.

The seizures in these cases amount to a total value of around Rs 1.75 crore weighing 64.796 kg.

The biggest seizure was of ganja weighing 62.36 kg. Other seizures include charas (465 gms), hashish (137.77 gms), MDMA (137.77 gms), LSD (64.91 gms), ecstasy tablets (49.76 gms) and heroin (33 gms).

Besides, the Central Narcotics Control Bureau in these five months has arrested 13 persons.

NCB has seized drugs worth Rs 70 lakh with a total weight of 43.34 kg.
