On Monday (April 14, 2025), Kareena Kapoor Khan announced a new film titled Daayra with Prithviraj Sukumaran, to be directed by Raazi filmmaker Meghna Gulzar. This comes just days after the two stars were spotted in the city, twinning in blue during an outing that sparked speculation about their collaboration. Last year, reports suggested that Ayushmann Khurrana was initially set to star alongside Kareena in the film. However, he later opted out due to scheduling conflicts after his dates were blocked.
Talking about the film, Meghna stated that Daayra is a story that compels people to reflect on the society. She added, "Kareena and Prithviraj bring the lead characters to life, the narrative dynamics are all set to elevate further! It’s always creatively gratifying to collaborate with Junglee Pictures, known for backing stories that are compelling and demand telling."

Daayra real-life story
According to reports, Daayra based on the 2019 Hyderabad rape and murder case of a 26-year-old veterinary doctor in Shamshabad. The four accused — Mohammed Arif, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, Jolu Shiva, and Jollu Naveen — who were arrested, were later shot dead by the police.
An old report in Pinkvilla stated, "Meghna has done all her research on the subject through the last few years and had a strong source material on place for her screenplay. She was moved by all that happened."
However, it is not officially confirmed if Daayra is based on the 2019 Hyderabad rape case.
Talking about the film, Daayra marks Meghna's next directorial after Sam Bahadur, starring Vicky Kaushal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Neeraj Kabi, Edward Sonnenblick and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.
Kareena Kapoor was last seen in Rohit Shetty's Singham Again, alongside Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff and Arjun Kapoor among others. Meanwhile, Sukumaran was recently seen in Empuraan, the sequel to Mohanlal’s 2019-released film Lucifer.
