'I was scared...': Vijay Varma reveals Shah Rukh Khan wanted to play his role in 'Darlings'
'Darlings' has been produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment.
Alia Bhatt's debut OTT venture 'Darlings' has been topping the charts and is receiving rave reviews from the audiences. The film sees Vijay Varma play and abusive husband, and the actor has now revealed that superstar Shah Rukh Khan had first shown interest in his character.
'Darlings' has been produced by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment.
During an interaction with Film Companion, Vijay spilled the beans on how he prepared himself for the role, which was in quite a dark space. He recalled that when SRK had read the script of 'Darlings', he had expressed his desire to play the character of Hamza, which was later played by Vijay.
"He was like 'agar main young hota toh ye role main hi karta. That was one of the reasons I felt like I can do this role, because if Shah Rukh Khan thinks that he can do this role, being an absolute lover-boy, national sweetheart. I was scared to take up a role like this but I am very glad that it hit the nail in the right place," he shared.

Vijay went on to say that he believed his career will end after people watch him play Hamza on screen. "When I walked out of the screening, I remember Alia was like 'are you okay' and I was really like 'I think mera career khatam ho jaayega iske baad'. Because a performance that creates that kind of hate and dread is scary for an actor," he stated.
However, Vijay's performance has become one of the talking points of the film, alongside Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah's acting chops.
Vijay will be next seen in Sujoy Ghosh's adaptation of 'Devotion of Suspect X', co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat.
