'Provide All Necessary Facilities, Manpower And Professors At Sindhudurg Government Medical College Immediately,' Says Minister Hasan Mushrif

Mumbai: Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif on Wednesday directed that all necessary facilities, equipment, and manpower for the Government Medical College in Sindhudurg district be provided immediately. While addressing the vacant positions of professors at the Sindhudurg Government Medical College, he instructed that these positions be filled within six months.

Fisheries and Ports Development Minister Nitesh Rane, former Minister of School Education and MLA Deepak Kesarkar, MLA Nilesh Rane, Medical Education Commissioner Rajeev Nivatkar, and other concerned officials were present at the meeting.
Mushrif further elaborated that the vacant teaching positions at the college should be filled within the next six months. He specifically mentioned that positions for Class III and Class IV employees, along with technical and non-technical roles, should be filled through external agencies. He stressed the need for transparency in the recruitment process and urged that all positions be filled within the next eight months.
The minister also suggested that faculty members from locations with surplus positions be transferred to Sindhudurg to ensure smooth operations at the college.
Additionally, he recommended that the Health Department grant permission for the demolition of the Nursing College hostel building and that temporary accommodation be arranged for nursing students. For this purpose, rental spaces should be acquired, and department officials should visit the college to assess the situation, provide necessary information on improvements, and expedite the construction of new buildings, he said.
During the meeting, Fisheries and Ports Development Minister Rane also provided suggestions regarding the provision of essential equipment for the medical college. He recommended that the recruitment process for Class III and Class IV positions be transparent, and that measures be taken to ensure quality healthcare services for the public at the college. He also emphasised the need for allocating funds for medicines.
A proposal has been made to provide 13 acres of land for the Government Medical College, with three acres from the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) land under the Skill Development Department already approved. The remaining 10 acres are to be obtained from the Social Forestry Department, and efforts are underway to submit the proposal to the Cabinet at the earliest.

In addition, an advertisement for the recruitment of professors has been published, and the positions are expected to be filled by May. The Class III, Class IV, technical, and non-technical positions will be filled within the next eight months, as confirmed by Commissioner Rajeev Nivatkar.
