The Maharashtra government on Monday announced an expansion of its hostel admission policy for minority girls pursuing education. According to the latest government resolution, vacant seats in government-funded hostels, initially reserved for students in higher education, will now be made available to students from Class 10, Class 11, Class 12, diploma courses, industrial training institutes, and polytechnic institutions.
The resolution, issued by the Department of Minority Development, states that minority students who have completed Class 12 will continue to receive priority for hostel accommodation. However, in cases where seats remain unfilled, students from lower classes and vocational courses will be considered for admission.
The government has also introduced a fee waiver scheme for students from economically weaker backgrounds. Minority students whose family income is below Rs8 lakh per annum will be exempt from hostel fees. The fee structure for other eligible students will be based on earlier resolutions issued in 2013 and 2014.
The hostel initiative, which was first approved in 2010, aims to provide accommodation to minority girls across Maharashtra to support their pursuit of higher education. The latest revision is expected to extend these benefits to a larger number of students, particularly those enrolled in vocational and technical courses.
