Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Government school admissions have seen a rise in Madhya Pradesh, with a 19% increase in new enrollments this year.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Wednesday inaugurated the four-day state-level admission festival under the 'School Chale Hum' campaign at Sandipani School in Bhopal.

During the event, Mohan Yadav showered flower petals on children and distributed bicycles to students. School Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh and ministers Vishvas Sarang, Vijay Shah and Krishna Gaur were also present at the programme.

About the campaign

The campaign aims to increase admissions, bring back dropout students and create a positive environment for education. Across the state, which has around 92,000 government schools and 85 lakh students, officials have been asked to ensure proper implementation of the program.

During the first day of the campaign, schools held children’s meetings and distributed free textbooks. Special meals were also arranged to make the start of the new academic session more welcoming.

In the coming days, successful people from different fields such as sports, arts and public service will visit schools to motivate students. Cultural and sports activities will also be held with parents’ participation.

Teachers will also identify children in villages and settlements who are not attending school and encourage their families to enroll them.

According to the chief minister, new admissions have increased by 19 percent this year, while the number of dropouts has been reduced to zero. In government schools alone, the rise in admissions is more than 36 percent.

He also announced that nearly four lakh bicycles will be distributed to students to help them travel easily to school.

The government has also introduced a scooter scheme for students, especially girls, and has appointed around 76,000 teachers to strengthen the education system. The state aims to enroll about 1.45 crore students this year.

Better Facilities

The chief minister said Sandipani schools are providing better facilities such as libraries, playgrounds and modern laboratories, which is attracting more students. The government has also set aside ₹250 crore in this year’s budget for student welfare.
