Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): A government-run junior students’ hostel in Lugasi village is plagued by several irregularities. The student hostel was started eight years ago to impart education to the children belonging to the lower-income group families.
According to sources in the school, although the hostel is run on paper, there are no students in it. Nor is there any superintendent to run the hostel.
The building is standing there. Sources said the names of nearly 30 students have been registered on records, but only one or two students were found there.
Even the hostel superintendent, Manoj Chourasia, was also not available. When contacted over the phone, Chourasia said that as he had the responsibility for two hostels, it was not possible for him to visit the hostel at Lugasi village daily.
The government gives Rs 1,390 for each student monthly for buying vegetables, oil, soaps, and other items; besides, it gives 400 grams of food grains for each student free of cost.
The government also bears the cost of education of the students and the additional duty of teachers to teach them in the hostel, the cook, and maintenance charges.
The government has also instructed the hostel superintendent to provide breakfast, tea, and meals according to the menu prescribed by the government.
In an inquiry, it came to light that food was not available in the kitchen. The students are also not provided with breakfast. Nor are any other facilities given to the students.
The rainwater is seeping through the roof. The condition of the hostel indicates that money provided by the government is being misused.
When the issue was put up before the sub-divisional magistrate of Nowgong, BS Patel, he immediately ordered an inquiry into the irregularities.
Patel said he would visit the spot and act against the guilty after the inquiry.
