Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh): The people, living in fear in the villages on the borders of Balaghat and Seoni districts adjacent to Maharashtra, are scared because six tigers are on the prowl. The tigress, which killed a farmer on Sunday, was seen moving in the area just two days ago.
So, the officials of the forest department have become active and are searching for the tigress and the six tigers, including a cub, with the help of drones. The places where the tigers are moving are adjacent to Kanhegaon circle, official sources said.
A reserved forest was set up from Pench to Rajiv Gandhi Sagar project in Balaghat in 2013. The project was jointly set up by Maharashtra and MP governments in Kudwa village on the banks of the Bawanthadi river.
Because water level in the river has reduced between October and December, the wild animals are easily crossing the river and straying into villages.
According to locals, the number of tigers has increased in the past 11 years. In the past two months, tigers have several times strayed into villages.
Since the farmlands are adjacent to the forest reserve, wild boar and Chital (axis deer) enter there. Tigers also enter the farmland to prey upon wild boars and chital. Nearly six tigers have been seen moving in the area. Residents have been advised to remain careful, official sources said.
