Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The southwest monsoon has regained momentum and is expected to enter Madhya Pradesh between June 15 and June 18. 

Before its arrival, pre-monsoon activity continues across the state, bringing strong winds, rain and even hailstorms to several districts.

Weather on Saturday

The IMD has predicted rain and strong winds with speeds of 50 - 60 kmph in Bhind, Datia, Chhatarpur, Panna and Sagar districts.

Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and rainfall are also likely in Bhopal, Raisen, Sehore, Vidisha, Narmadapuram, Betul, Gwalior, Guna, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Morena, Sheopur, Jabalpur, Katni, Chhindwara, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Pandhurna, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Mauganj, Maihar, Shahdol, Umaria, Anuppur, Damoh, Tikamgarh and Niwari.

Meanwhile, districts including Indore, Ujjain, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Harda, Dewas, Agar Malwa, Rajgarh and Shajapur are expected to witness bright sunshine and mainly dry weather conditions.

What do meteorologists say?

Despite the recent weather activity, Madhya Pradesh is lagging behind in June rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the state has received 23% less rainfall than normal so far this month.

The rainfall deficit is more severe in eastern Madhya Pradesh. Districts under the Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol and Sagar divisions have received 55% less rain than average. 

In contrast, western regions including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal and Narmadapuram divisions have recorded 2% more rainfall than normal.
