Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): MP High Court on Tuesday served notice on Railways on a petition filed by a youth for not giving him a job as promised while acquiring his family's land for two railway projects.
A single bench of Justice Vivek Agrawal has issued a notice during hearing of the petition.
Ashakrit Tripathi (unemployed) of village Karhi Kothar, tehsil Raghunagar, district Satna has filed a petition saying that his land measuring 0.0040 hectares was acquired by railway for two new railway lines - Rewa-Sidhi-Singrauli and Khajuraho-Panna-Satna projects.
The land was acquired between 2019 and 2021. Thereafter, the petitioner filed several complaints in this regard, but there was no response.
Ministry of Railways had issued guidelines regarding the appointment of affected landless persons whose land was acquired for railway development/lines after land acquisition.
The petitioner's land is located in Village Karhi, Harmalla, Tehsil Raghunagar, District Satna. Railways has not given compensation of ₹5 lakh nor have they given the promised job, petitioner’s counsels said.
Woman arrested with ganja
A woman was arrested for carrying ganja in a plastic bag in Deori Station Road.
During a patrol at Station Road in Deori in the Tuesday wee hours, the cops spotted a woman in a green saree carrying a yellow plastic bag. Upon seeing the police, she attempted to flee from the spot and climbed onto the roof of a house.
The police surrounded her and arrested her. Upon questioning, she identified herself as Meena Kewat, wife of Jai Kumar Kewat (36) residing at Station Road Deori.
Cops checked the plastic bag she was holding and found ganja inside. Following the provisions of the NDPS Act, the ganja was weighed and found to be 261 grams, valued at Rs 5200.
The woman has disclosed to the police that she purchased it from Kapil Sonkar near Ghamapur Chowk. A case has been registered against Meena Kewat and Kapil Sonkar under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, and efforts are underway to apprehend Kapil Sonkar.
