Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): One Sarabjit Singh Narang of Jabalpur has set an example of a good samaritan, who not only donates blood but has also opened an NGO for Thalassemia patients.

Sarabjit has donated blood 134 times so far. He had donated blood in 1992 for the first time to a Thalassemia patient after which he came up with the idea of opening an NGO.

"I had donated blood to an elderly woman who was a Thalassemia patient and had to undergo an operation. When I met her after her operation, I felt the real meaning of donating life to someone," saya Narang.

"Since then I took a resolution that now I will continue to help the needy by donating blood. There are about 500 Thalassemia patients in the city who need blood at regular intervals."

Inspired by this, Sarabjit has also opened a foundation named Disha Foundation for the Thalassemia patients which has all the amenities, from medication facility to blood availability for Thalassemia patients.

When asked about his journey of opening a foundation, Sarabjit recalls an inspiring incident. "Once during the blood donation, I met a two-year-old child. He needed blood at regular intervals. His struggle of striving for blood in need of life inspired me."

"In 2011, I collected a few people and opened Disha Welfare. We reach the blood donor for Thalassemia patients on a fixed date. Blood donors are always present for them. We have all the facilities, from blood availability to medication. Our foundation is always ready for blood donation and it's our duty to motivate people to voluntary blood donation. My wife has donated blood 19 times and my son 21 times for Thalassemia victims."
