Investigating officer Adriyana told Free Press that the woman who took the extreme step has been identified as Saraswati (27), a native of Andhra Pradesh. As the police were informed of the suicide by the Hamidia hospital staff, they reached there and assumed custody of the body. Police launched investigations into the case and learnt that Saraswati had been in immense distress due to the extension of the course, while other of her batch-mates had already completed their PG course.

Saraswati’s co-workers, requesting anonymity from Free Press, said that she was also distressed, as the HOD of the gynaecology department was not accepting her thesis, which compelled her to end her life.

IO Adriyana also said that since the time Saraswati has committed suicide and was rushed to the hospital, her husband is nowhere to be found. Her husband is a UPSC aspirant, she added.

At last, IO Adriyana said that the kin of Saraswati have been informed, who will arrive in the town by Tuesday. Her post-mortem will take place thereafter.
