Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Bhopal will get 10 more electric buses from Monday, August 24, increasing the city’s e-bus fleet from 20 to 30.
The new buses will run on the three existing routes and help reduce waiting time for passengers. After the expansion, commuters are expected to get buses every 10 to 15 minutes.
The additional buses will improve connectivity between Kolar Road, Bawadiya Kalan, Bairagarh, MP Nagar and the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). All three routes pass through MP Nagar, making travel easier for office-goers and students.
The electric buses currently cover major areas such as New Market, Salaiya, Rohit Nagar, Ashoka Garden, Subhash Nagar, Kohefiza and Peer Gate. The minimum fare ranges from ₹6 to ₹7, while the maximum fare is ₹40.
Daily ridership crosses 10k
Ten electric buses were added to the fleet last week, taking the total number to 20. At present, around 10,000 to 12,000 passengers use the electric bus service every day.
The three routes are B35, B36 and B37. Route B35 runs from Chirayu Hospital in Bairagarh to Aakriti Eco City in Salaiya. It covers areas including Lalghati, Hamidia Hospital, Peer Gate, Roshanpura, MP Nagar, Bittan Market, Rohit Nagar and Bawadiya.
Route B36 connects Coach Factory with Kolar Road and passes through Bhopal railway station, Ashoka Garden, Subhash Nagar, Board Office, MP Nagar, Bittan Market, Bansal Hospital, Chuna Bhatti and Mandakini.
Route B37 runs from the Bairagarh e-bus depot to ISBT and connects areas such as Lalghati, Hamidia Hospital, Shahjahanabad, Nadra Bus Stand, Bhopal railway station, Malviya Nagar, Vallabh Bhavan and DB Mall.
Hydraulic doors to help passengers with disabilities
The electric buses have hydraulic doors to help passengers with disabilities board and exit easily.
Wheelchair and tricycle users can enter the buses through these doors without much difficulty. A dedicated space opposite the hydraulic door can accommodate two wheelchairs or tricycles at a time.
This accessibility feature has been introduced in Bhopal’s city buses for the first time.
