Team India show remarkable resilience as draw seem on the cards
On the cricketing side of things, Team India, led by Shubman Gill, have displayed remarkable resilience on day five to take their side towards a draw. Although they had lost B Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal in back-to-back deliveries for ducks on day four, KL Rahul and Shubman Gill showed sensational grit to not lose any more wickets.
By Stumps on day four, India had reached 174/2. However, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer dismissed Rahul for 90 and Gill for 103, ensuring that the hosts stay in the contest. But Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja have kept the fight on for India. Gill notably struck his fourth hundred of the series, thereby joining Sunil Gavaskar and Don Bradman as the captains to score four tons in the series.
England's mammoth total of 669 was headlined by hundreds from Joe Root (150) and Ben Stokes (141), proving to be the highest team total at the venue. Root, meanwhile, became the second-highest run-getter in Tests and is now behind only Sachin Tendulkar, who has 15921 runs in the format.
At the time of writing this, the tourists held a lead of 56 runs, with Sundar and Jadeja looking comfortable after hitting fifties.
