'It's A Scary Way For Him To Live': Glenn Maxwell On Virat Kohli Being Mobbed By Fans During Car Ride; Video

Veteran Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recalled how Virat Kohli was hounded during their time at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) amid a car journey from the stadium to the hotel. Maxwell recalled the scenes and labelled it saying "it's a "scary way for him to live" and claimed asking Kohli "how he dealt with it".

Maxwell joined Kohli-led RCB in IPL 2021 and spent until the 2024 edition, playing a handful of memorable knocks. During this time, the duo have formed an excellent bond, with Maxwell notably consoling Kohli after Team India's stunning loss in the 2023 World Cup final.

Speaking to Mark Howard in the LISTNR's podcast, the Victorian recalled the duo hopping into the car and immediately thinking to himself it was a bad idea.

"We had a training session where me and him went to training session reasonably early, got our stuff done. I think it was an optional session, so we batted together, batted for a while, finished up and said, 'Oh we can get a car back to the hotel, just so we can get dinner or whatever. We jumped in a car and immediately alarm bells were going off in my head that this is probably not a good idea. We had security in the front seat of the car and a car behind us full of police."

Maxwell went on to reveal that Kohli was calm when he asked how he deals with people seeking his attention all the time so widly.

"As we were driving out of Chinnaswamy Stadium, people noticed we were driving out, we saw people punching on the window, like beating up his car. They were trying to get his attention and get him to look at him. I was surprised the car didn't have dents all over it... This was so uncomfortable and I was just looking at him, 'How do you deal with it on a day-to-day basis' and he sort of shrugged it off like it's what I go through. It's a scary way for him to live," Maxwell said.
