Punekars Unite For 'My River My Valentine' Initiative: A Collective Effort To Clean River

Like every year, this year too, Punekars came together at the Bhide Pool area to clean the river area and implement the 'My River My Valentine' initiative on behalf of the Worship Earth Foundation on Valentine's Day. This time, students and youths were involved in creating awareness along with cleaning the river area.

People believe the Valentine's Day originated in memory of Saint Valentine, who sacrificed his life for love and marriage. They observe this day every year on February 14 to honour his dedication. The final and the most significant day of the week-long celebration has become a globally recognized festival.

Dr.Parag Kalkar Pro Vice Chancellor of the Savitraibai Phule Pune University (SPPU), said, "Mula-Mutha is the channel of Pune. Human life has developed along the banks of the river. The river is an essential part of human life and water pollution can create many problems. We should take a step towards improving the river and improving health."

Raj Deshmukh said, "As per the saying 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' the entire human race is one family, and as humans, we enjoy all the things on this earth like water, soil, air, plants, forest medicines, animals, insects, etc. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all as humans to protect and conserve it."

This is why this initiative was organized. In this initiative, a cleanliness campaign was conducted by cleaning the area along the river and removing dry waste and plastic.

This time, the Worship Earth Foundation has announced a scholarship of Rs 2 lakh for students. To promote environmental conservation and sustainable development, the Worship Earth Foundation has announced a scholarship of Rs 2 lakh for students who suggest innovative solutions. The aim of this scholarship is to inspire students to find and work on environmentally friendly concepts.
