A case has been registered against a doctor from Symbiosis University Hospital & Research Centre in Pune's Lavale for allegedly demanding ₹20,000 from a patient’s relatives for surgery, officials said on Thursday.
According to the police, Dilip Shivsharan (38), a resident of Uttamnagar, had admitted his aunt to Symbiosis Hospital due to gallbladder pain. The doctor treating her, identified as Pravin Lohate (55), a resident of Chandannagar, informed the relatives that the patient’s condition was very serious and required immediate surgery. For the same, Lohate allegedly demanded ₹20,000 in cash. He reportedly said he would only operate if the amount was paid.
Meanwhile, a case was registered against Lohate after Shivsharan lodged a complaint on Wednesday at the Bavdhan Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
