According to local media reports, a woman named Gayatri Koli (26) was found hanging on Thursday. However, her family has alleged that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law strangled her and brutally murdered her. The family alleged that there was an argument in the house because she was cooking food while menstruating. Due to the same argument, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law beat her, strangled her to death, and hung her body with a saree to make it look like suicide, they alleged. The deceased woman is survived by a five-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter.
Reports added that her husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law have fled the house after the incident.
Jalgaon Police are conducting further investigation in this case.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Shalini Thackeray took to X (formerly Twitter) and condemned the incident. She wrote, "Due to such superstitions and cruel mentality, two young children have lost their mother. This incident forces society to reflect on how backward we still are, and how essential the spread of legal awareness truly is!"
