Watch video: Home guard saves life of woman commuter after she falls off moving local train at Jogeshwari station
Boarding/deboarding from the moving train is an offence under railway act
It was a lucky escape for a woman passenger who was saved from being pulled into the gap between a train and platform by an alert home guard. While trying to deboard a moving local train at Jogeshwari station on April 16, 2022, a female commuter lost her balance and landed on the platform. While trying to regain balance, the woman continued to hold onto the handle on the train's entrance. As the train began to gain momentum, the woman was pulled ahead and fell down.
But she was quite lucky. Altaf Shaikh, a home guard, who was deployed in the same ladies coach, jumped from the moving train to save the woman. Confirming the development, Quaiser Khalid, commissioner of government railway police, Mumbai said Altaf Shaikh will be suitably rewarded on Tuesday,
"Boarding / deboarding from the moving train is an offence under railway act, and also might be be prove fatal," said a senior railway official adding that besides the continuous awareness campaign there are several incidents wherein passengers in a hurry try to board/de-board a moving train, slip and fall with the risk of coming under the wheels of the train."
"Under mission “Jeevan Raksha” RPF personnel, risking their own lives saved 74 (50 Male + 24 Female) such persons in March 2022, and 178 persons (106 male and 72 female) between Jan 2022 and March 2022 across the Indian railway," officials added. Apart from this, several other such types of mishaps were also averted by GRP officials during the period.
