A video circulated on social media of a man riding a two-wheeler with seven children on it, has landed him to jail, for driving irresponsibly.

The footage first came out earlier last week, on June 20, with the caption that said by the user, "This irresponsible maniac is riding with seven children on a scooter. He should be immediately arrested for risking the lives of seven young children." He had tagged the Mumbai Traffic Police who assured to take strict action against the driver.

Man booked

According to the user, the spot was on Mumbai central Bridge, east. While the number plate of the vehicle was visible in the video, but one of the letter had a dark paint on it which made it difficult for the cops to trace it.

In the video, the accused is seen confidently driving without a helmet, while children - some are sitting on the engine, some at the back seat and some hanging on the sides while one is standing at the back.

Yet on Friday evening, they managed to track down with the help of experts and found the vehicle's owner. He is identified as Munawar Ali Asgar Ali Shah, 39, a resident of Tardeo.

They booked Munawar on Saturday and even registered a case against him at the Tardeo police station. He was summoned for interrogation during which it was known that out of seven children, three were his own and the rest were neighbour's. He revealed that he takes these children to school and picks them later after school. Given the route is a narrow one, there barely is any traffic official to check on his activity.

Munawar occasionally works as rag picker and sometimes he sells coconut water on roadside. Since he cannot afford to send the children in autorickshaw everyday, he found this unlawful yet innovative way to ferry the children to and fro school.

Police arrest Munawar

Munawar was arrested on Sunday night by the cops. In the FIR, sections including 279 (rashdriving), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code and 184 (driving dangerously), 194 (d) (driving without helmet), 194 (c) (violation of safety measures), among others of the Motot Vehicles Act.
