Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s legal troubles might increase even more in the days to come, with a fresh complaint being received against her by the Thane Police on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Mumbra and Pydhonie police stations have also made further progress in the FIRs already registered with them against her.

According to police sources, a complaint was submitted at the Ambarnath police station in Thane by a Muslim organisation on Tuesday.

Senior police inspector Rajendra Kote, Ambarnath police station said, “Delegates from the All India Progressive Muslim Welfare Committee visited the police station and submitted an application seeking an FIR against Sharma for her recent derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. We have received their application and assured them that appropriate action will be taken soon.”

Meanwhile, the Mumbra police on Tuesday issued a summons to Sharma in connection with their case against her, which was registered late last month.

“We have issued a summons to her, asking her to present herself for inquiries at the police station on June 22,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Avinash Ambure, Zone I, Thane Police.

In another development, the Pydhonie police, who had also registered an FIR against Sharma, sought the original video recording of Sharma’s remarks.

“We have written to the news channel that hosted the debate, during which the remarks were made, and sought the unedited clip of the entire debate from them,” a senior Mumbai Police officer said.
