Mumbai: Woman detained before immolation bid near Mantralaya | File
Mumbai Police on Thursday detained a woman outside the state secretariat Mantralaya in Mumbai where she had allegedly planned to set herself ablaze.
Police have recovered a bottle of petrol and a match box from the woman. The police officer said the woman was detained near the Garden Gate of Mantralaya.
According to the Marine Drive police, the 35-year-old woman, identified as Lata Bai Patil, is a resident of Anjani Budruk of Mehkar taluka of Buldhana district.
The police said that the woman's husband had sold two acres of land in which she and her children also have rights. She had filed a complaint to the police and the authorities concerned regarding this. She claimed that her husband alone can't sell the property. She demanded that the land sold by her husband be returned to her, therefore, she decided to take the extreme step to bring the matter to the notice of the authorities.
The woman was taken into custody and brought to the Marine Drive Police Station where the police counseled her.
An officer of the Marine Drive police said that the police have registered a case against the woman for attempting to commit suicide and a notice has also been given to the woman for this.
