Mumbai: Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions are expected to receive above normal rainfall, the Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) 2025 Monsoon Outlook states. Entire Maharashtra overall is predicted to witness above normal rainfall, however, Marathwada and South Maharashtra are more likely to receive above normal rainfall this season, the report states.

The Marathwada region of Maharashtra is traditionally a drought prone region, however, with heavy rains it is hopeful that the problem water crisis in the region will be addressed until summer next year. The region includes districts of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad), Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna, Nanded and Dharashiv.

The IMD on Tuesday released its All-India 2025 Monsoon Outlook, which said that the southwest monsoon (June to September) over the country as a whole is most likely to be above normal. The forecast based on both dynamical and statistical models suggests that

quantitatively, the monsoon seasonal rainfall is likely to be 105% of the Long Period Average, the report added. One of the main reasons for the extreme weather conditions is the below normal snowfall this winter. This climatic change also resulted in extreme heat.

The IMD has said that it will release and updated forecast for monsoon 2025 in May last week.

As per IMD Mumbai's district weather report of April 16, Mumbai and it's neighbouring districts will have dry weather and no warning for hot and humid conditions is given. For the next 48 hours, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Mumbai is expected to be 34°C and 25°C respectively and skies are expected to be clear.

However, for the districts like Pune, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nandurbar and Marathwada region, a Yellow Alert for Hot and Humid conditions has been given for the next couple of days.
