Mumbai Weather Update: City Sees Wettest Day Of August; IMD Issues Yellow Alert Until August 19
After a break of two weeks, Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions got respite from the increased heat and humidity as the cities were drenched with light to moderate rains. The region is recieving continues showers from Wednesday night and the intensity is likely to increase over the weekend.

Mumbai: After a break of two weeks, Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions got respite from the increased heat and humidity as the cities were drenched with light to moderate rains. The region is recieving continues showers from Wednesday night and the intensity is likely to increase over the weekend. The districts of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad are under alert for moderate to heavy rainfall for the next five days.
Above 50 mm Rain in Most Areas
In the period of 24 hours (Wednesday 9 pm to Thursday 9 pm) maximum areas in Mumbai received above 50 mm rainfall, marking it the wettest day of this month.
Heaviest Rainfall Pockets
As per BMC data, the areas which recieved highest rainfall included: Malad, Madh (86 mm); Malpa Dongari, Andheri (72 mm); Paspoli, Powai (63 mm); Pali Hill (56 mm); Vihar Lake (57 mm); Colaba Pumping station (54 mm); Sewri (52 mm); Ghatkopar (51 mm); Worli Naka (50 mm) and others.
Alerts in Place for Multiple Districts
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for widespread increase in rainfall activity across the state, especially in Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra. Considering, the change in weather systems, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad are placed under Yellow Alert untill August 19, of which for August 17 - an Orange Alert is sounded for heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Statewide Rain Activity Intensifies
The entire Marathwada and the Vidharbha region is also under Yellow Alert for moderate to heavy rainfall for the next few days. While Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall is sounded for the the districts like Pune, Kolhapur and ghats of Satara.

The increase in rainfall activity is expected to rise the water levels in the lakes supplying water to Mumbai. From the last three weeks the water levels are stagnant at 89%.
