Mumbai Tragedy: 46-Year-Old PWD Electrician Dies After Tree Branch Falls At Police Headquarters In Colaba

Mumbai: A tragic accident was reported at the Maharashtra Police Headquarters in South Mumbai, where a Public Works Department (PWD) employee lost his life after a tree branch fell on him.

Victim identified

The deceased has been identified as Anil Bhagoji Gore (46), who was working as an electrician with the PWD and was deployed for duty at the police headquarters and the adjoining MLA quarters in Colaba.

Incident details

According to officials, the incident occurred at around 4:15 pm when Gore had gone to drink water from a cooler located behind the DG office building. While returning, a branch of a Gulmohar tree suddenly broke and fell on his head, leaving him critically injured.

He was immediately shifted to St. George Hospital in a private vehicle, where doctors examined him and declared him dead. The incident was reported at around 6:53 pm, and multiple agencies, including the fire brigade, police, and ward staff, were mobilised. The falling branch also damaged four vehicles parked within the premises.

Family and background

Gore was a resident of Pant Nagar in Ghatkopar and is survived by his mother and two daughters, one studying in Class 6 and the other in Class 12. He originally hailed from Chiplun in Ratnagiri district.

Investigation underway

An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered at the Colaba Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
