A night of revelry went awry for party animals at Bandra's Escobar pub when bar staff got into a nasty altercation with customers. A video shared on Twitter shows bar staff and customers even using rods to beat each other up. Two different clips of the fight have been merged before it was shared. The first half of the clip shows a fight raging inside the premises of the pub wherein the staffers can be seen using rods to beat up customers. Another part shows the fight extending to the passage area and the staffers pushing the customers inside a lift. The clip shows that the fight continues inside the lift with a visibly angry staff member thrashing a customer whose clothes were torn during the fight.
Cause of fight
The fight reportedly took place over a minor issue. “The fight began when one group accidentally splashed some champagne on the other group. An argument ensued. The situation got out of hand and led to physical violence. The bouncers attempted to intervene but ended up beating up people of both the groups, who sustained minor injuries,” according to Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mahatre. The incident took place at about 1 am, according to a person who witnessed the brawl.
FIR against bouncers and staff members
The Bandra police has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against the bouncers and staff members and apprehended seven people. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 324 of the Indian Penal Code, (voluntarily causing hurt), 143 (unlawful assembly), and 147 (punishment for rioting), as well as other sections.
Accused granted bail
All the accused have been granted bail, according to DCP Krishnakant Upadhyay. However, when The Free Press Journal approached Escobar for comment, the security personnel on duty said the club was closed because of a disruption in electricity supply
