Mumbai: Inauguration Of Metro Lines 9 & 2B, Ground Breaking Of Pod Taxi, Thane-Borivali Tunnel Work POSTPONED! Know Why

Mumbai: The inauguration of phase 1 of Mumbai's Metro Lines 9 and 2B, the bhoomipujan of the BKC pod taxi project, and launch of Thane-Borivali tunnel work have been postponed. Earlier, on March 28, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had announced the inauguration and bhoomipujan of the four major projects on April 3.

Reason for the delay

Though there is no official confirmation from the MMRDA on the postponement, however, The Times Of India report stated the event is likely to be held on either April 5 or 6. The delay has reportedly come due to the political meetings of the senior leaders in the poll-bound states of Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal.

People have long been awaiting the inauguration of Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line 9 and Mumbai Metro Line 2B, as these corridors are expected to improve east-west and north-south connectivity, linking crucial residential and commercial zones. Just two days back, MMRDA Chief Sanjay Mukherjee had also conducted an on-ground inspection of both the corridor infrastructure, reviewing safety measures and operational preparedness.

Apart from this, the bhoomipujan of the pod taxi project in Bandra Kurla Complex was set to kick-start. The project aims to introduce a modern, driverless transport system within one of Mumbai's busiest business districts in order to reduce internal traffic congestion.

The commencement of tunnel boring work for the Thane Borivali tunnel was also set to start on April 3. The tunnel is expected to significantly cut travel time between Thane and Borivali, which currently involves long and congested road routes.
