The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to begin electrification work on Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro Line 9—from Dahisar East to Kashigaon—starting May 10, covering a nearly 5-kilometer stretch and four stations, confirmed an official.
Furthering a public notification has been issued warning citizens to stay cautious around this section of the route, as the metro overhead traction wires will be energized with 25,000 volts for the electrification process.
An MMRDA official stated that once the energization is complete, trial runs for the metro will commence. These trials are a critical step toward commissioning the line for public use, pending all required regulatory clearances.
Metro Line 9, an extension of Metro Line 7 (which connects Andheri East to Dahisar East), will ultimately run from Dahisar to Mira Bhayander, spanning 13.581 km—of which 11.386 km is elevated and 2.195 km underground—and will include 10 stations in total.

Once fully operational, the metro is expected to significantly ease travel in the western suburbs by reducing current commute times by 50% to 75%, depending on road conditions. It will also enhance connectivity between the Western Express Highway, the Western Railway, Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar), and Metro Line 7.
By 2031, the daily ridership on Metro Line 9 is projected to reach 11.12 lakh, positioning it as a major component of Mumbai’s expanding public transit network.
